What is determination? Where does it come from? Why does it come at all? Have you ever wondered? A child who is told to stay within sight always tends to wander away, to seek what lies beyond and ends up discovering new horizons. Why is that? What makes him disobey? What makes him go against his mother’s instructions? It’s a desire to explore and find new grounds. It was sheer dogged disobedience from Edmund Hillary that made him conquer the Mount Everest and become the first ever to do so. He refused to accept admonishments from nature, from nations and even himself. It was his curiosity and determination to find out what was on top of the mountain that made him climb the Everest. Decades later, it was again disobedience from Arunima Sinha, the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest in 2013. When an unfortunate train accident left her disabled she refused to accept fate and rose to the challenge.
How many times has life thrown us one of these? How many times have we been given a situation and told that this is our fate now, that we have no choice. We always have a choice. We can either accept it or choose to disobey. If we do not accept it as our fate nothing in this world can make us.
I have a friend who met with an accident about 7 years ago and is now wheel-chair bound. Will she ever walk again? Only time will tell. Until then she is refuses to stay put. She can be seen strolling around in her wheel-chair all over the internet, challenging administrations to make India wheel-chair friendly and has even started a petition towards it. She could have chosen to accept defeat and live a life that had nothing in common with what she wanted. But she chose to disobey. You can follow her journey here.
So my friends, learn to disobey. Learn to unlearn what we were taught as children. If we want to lead the life we are meant to, we must first learn to Disobey! I will leave you with this thought. Hope it inspires you enough to disobey.
This week the prompt is Disobey
